On sharing the adventure

Sometimes when you travel it's not what you find that makes the trip but who. This is a thank you of sorts, a love letter, a petition, an affidavit, an inventory. To those now on planes hurtling away across oceans and continents: thank you, I love you, I miss you, I think you owe me 50 CFA.

You were braver than I was. You needed me to take care of you. You hugged me. You stood beside me and loved his place as I did and hated it when I did that too. You were my adventure buddy. You were my therapist. You shared fruits and you shared secrets. We had roofs and sunsets and girl talk and silent companionship. You challenged me to think in ways I hadn't before. You were so different from me and I was frustrated that you forced me to do better to keep up, to be better to interest you.
You told me that I can do this. You showed me that it can be done. You said so succinctly and beautifully sentiments I had been struggling to name. You have a good guy face.
You snapped at me when I didn't deserve it and you took the crap I threw at you because we were all a little angry at what was going on around us. You left me in la brusse and you got me really drunk. You gave me nicknames and let me rub your belly. You held out hope for things I'd given up on. You gave me that book that warmed my soul. You teased me. You edited my writing and told my stories far better than I would have. You read my mind. You grew before my eyes. You're an angel and a hippie and a nerd and an adventurer and a weirdo and a mess and a good soul.
Thank you for sharing every moment of this grand adventure we undertook together.

Safe travels my friends. Jamm ak jamm.
